Betsson

Betsson AB is a Swedish-listed operator group running online casino and sportsbook brands in a number of European and Latin American markets.

Betsson has not confirmed a Finnish licence application, and we have no sourced record of one.

The company appears on speculative lists of expected applicants published elsewhere, on the reasoning that its Nordic brand portfolio and regulatory experience make it a natural entrant. That reasoning may be sound, but it is inference rather than information, and we do not publish it as a record.

Two documented facts are relevant. Betsson is a founding member of Rahapeliala ry, the trade association established in 2022 to campaign for Finnish licensing. And its holding company, BML Group, was reported in 2024 as the first company placed on the National Police Board's payment blocking list following a Helsinki Administrative Court decision; the company appealed, and the Supreme Administrative Court suspended the order pending the outcome. The current status of that case should be checked directly.

Taken together, those two facts describe a company that has been on both sides of the Finnish regulator's attention: sanctioned under the monopoly framework, and lobbying for the licensed one that replaces it. See our guide to enforcement and sanctions.
