How we source, verify and label information

Source hierarchy

Official sources come first: the National Police Board, the Ministry of the Interior, Finlex and, from July 2027, the Supervisory Agency. Second are a company's own communications: press releases, investor materials, regulatory filings, executive statements on the record. Third is industry reporting and conference disclosure. Third-tier sources are useful for discovery; important claims that rest on them alone are labelled accordingly.

Confidence tiers

Every record in the Licence Tracker and company directory carries one of three labels. Confirmed: an official source or the company's own statement. Reported: a credible third party, not yet confirmed by the company or regulator. Unverified: a single or weak source; shown only where the information is already public and its status is made plain. Records we cannot label Confirmed or Reported are held back from publication.

Dates and precision

Where an exact date is not known, we say so. Application dates carry a precision marker: exact, month, quarter or unknown. Every record shows a source date and a last-verified date. A record that has not been re-verified in ninety days is flagged for review.

Regulatory content

Guides distinguish four things: what the law says, what the regulator has stated as guidance, how the industry and its advisers interpret it, and our own analysis. We do not draw legal conclusions that are not supported by a cited source. Guides show their last-updated date and list their primary sources.

Automated tools

We use software, including AI systems, to discover, extract, classify and summarise information. None of it is a source. Every published factual claim points to a real document, statement or person, and every data record is checked by a person before publication.

Commercial content

Sponsored content is labelled as such at the top of the piece and in listings. Featured or Verified labels on company profiles are explained where they appear. Partners have no influence over news, data records or regulatory guides.

Consumer gambling

This is a B2B publication. We do not publish casino reviews, bonus comparisons, operator rankings, betting tips or any content that encourages gambling. Until 1 July 2027 marketing gambling in mainland Finland by anyone other than Veikkaus is illegal, and we take that seriously in how we describe operators and their products.

Images

Editorial images on this site are commissioned illustrations, not photographs of real places, people or events. They are produced with generative tools under our art direction and are labelled as illustrations wherever they appear. We do not use them to depict anything that happened, and we do not publish images that could be mistaken for news photography. Where a story would benefit from an actual photograph, we either license one and credit it, or publish the story without an image. Company logos appear only for identification in the company directory.

Links to other websites

We link to primary sources so readers can check our work: Finnish authorities, legislation on Finlex, official statistics, and established independent trade publications. We do not link to gambling operators, suppliers, law firms, affiliate websites or other commercial parties, even when they are the subject of a story or the origin of a statement. Those sources are named in full so they can be found, but not linked. This keeps the publication clear of anything that could be read as endorsement or as gambling marketing, which remains prohibited in Finland for anyone other than the monopoly holder until 1 July 2027. Every outbound link carries a nofollow attribute and opens in a new window. Where a source sits behind a paywall, we say so.
