Hippos ATG Oy has been identified in Finnish media reporting as one of the first companies to file for a licence under Finland's new gambling regime, with an application covering sports betting, online casino games and horse-race betting.

The company is a joint venture between AB Trav och Galopp, the Swedish horse-racing betting operator, and Suomen Hippos, the Finnish trotting and horse-breeding organisation.

Why horse racing matters here

Horse-race betting is one of the verticals moving into competitive territory on 1 July 2027. It sits alongside betting, online casino, online slots and online money bingo, while money lotteries, pools, scratchcards, physical slot machines and land-based casino games remain under an exclusive licence held by a state-owned company.

A joint venture between the Swedish and Finnish horse-racing bodies is therefore positioned in a segment where the incumbent's exclusivity ends and where both parties already hold domain expertise and customer relationships.

Reported, not confirmed

Hippos ATG has not issued a public statement confirming the filing, and the National Police Board does not publish applicant names. Our Licence Tracker therefore records this application at the Reported confidence tier and the application date to the quarter rather than the day.

The record will be upgraded to Confirmed if the company states the filing publicly or the regulator confirms it. That distinction is the point of the tracker: two applicants are now identifiable, one from the company's own words and one from reporting, out of roughly fifty filed.
